Reduce, Reuse & Recycle!!
With all the natural disasters that have been happening in recent times, many scientists believe these are all due to global warming!.Hurricanes, typhoons and Tsunami’s are said to be a symptoms of this phenomenon. Due to the massive effects these disasters have on the lives of ordinary people, many global leaders are being called to action. As an individual, though, how are we able to help?. Never has being an environmentalist as cool as it is today.
There is the traditional Recycling of waste and using biodegradable materials, but there is so much more that we can do.We hear about Green Living or sustainable living, but what do these phrases actually mean?. Sustainable living is a lifestyle choice. Those who observe it try their best to live their lives with the least possible impact on the Earth’s natural resources. This is borne out of respect for the environment and to keep the humans’ symbiotic relationship with the planet’s cycles and ecologies. Sustainable living practitioners believe that by altering their methods of diet, energy consumption and transportation, that they can reduce their carbon footprint on the environment.Waste management is one of the most important aspects of green living. Segregating biodegradable waste from non-biodegradables is only the first step. Many items of non-biodegradable waste can still be recycled like Glass Bottles and Aluminium Cans. Even old Newspapers can be recycled and turned into brown paper bags. There are also proper ways to dispose of plastic ,electronic items such as Computers & Cell Phones, as well as Old Batteries. When it comes to food, leading a sustainable lifestyle means not needing to buy all your food requirements at the supermarket. Why not start to grow your own herbs and vegetables in your own back garden?. This way, you definitely know that the food you are eating is organic and is not subject to industrial chemicals like pesticide, fungicides & herbicides, besides which its also cheaper & more fun!. ]]> If you still need to go on a supermarket run, however, make sure you bring your own Reusable Plastic Grocery Bags. This is so you will not need the plastic bags from the supermarket, which contribute a considerable amount to the world’s landfill problems!.We can also help the environment by becoming educated on how to use energy both responsibly & properly. In an ideal world we should only use energy which is renewable, such as Solar Energy .As this may not be financially or regionally possible for many people at the moment, just being conscious of the amount of energy we use may be enough for the meantime. During winter, for example, we should be more conscious of the energy we use for heating. Seal up all the areas where drafts would possibly seep through, like back doors and garage doors. We should also draw heavy curtains or blinds over the windows at night to keep the warm air inside. As cold air sinks, the loft insulation should also be regularly checked just before winter comes. Our modes of transportation are one of the biggest culprits of air pollution as they use fossil fuels to operate. To make as little impact on the environment as possible, Hybrid Cars or all electric cars are advisable. Failing this walking, cycling, & car pooling should also be something that we should ALL do more often!.No single person or country is solely responsible for the environmental problems the world now faces, but we can all make our own contribution to ensure that the impact we have on this world & the carbon footprint we all own is as small as is possible.
